New York protests

I biked to Union Square to take photos of the protesters. The need to oppose racism where there is, abuses and illegal practices by the police, impunity of the law enforcement, probably their lack of training is clear. Once there, I saw some of the protesters, with the impunity of being crowd, abusing cops that were there because they had to. I saw agents being genuinely scared, and I hoped they'd keep their calm under pressure. Was that useful to anybody, or even justified? The killing of so many African Americans by policemen is unjustifiable and unacceptable. I wonder if the BLM movement, and we all as a society, would make more progress in addressing this issue by stopping to protest "the police" as a whole (like we refuse looters and violent protesters to be representative of the entire protest movement), by trying to establish a dialog to convince people in the uniform that being accountable will make them more respected and more effective. The fact that many agents engaged in discussion with the protesters (and in some occasion even joined the protest) indicates that this path is open.
