El Peñón, Antofagasta de la Sierra, Antofalla

We saw too much in the Puna, the high-altitude desert at the border with Chile, to tell the story in just one post. Too many colors, shapes, volcanoes, salt flats, mountains, dunes, people, lives. This first post tells the stretch from Hualfin, in the Calchaquì valley, to the southern edge of Salar de Arizaro. Over 3 days of trails we crossed the oasis of El Peñón, Antofagasta de la Sierra, Antofalla, and finally Antofallita (with its two inhabitants).
